paediatric hospitals and its Electron Microscopy
(EM) unit has an international reputation as a centre of
excellence in identifying rare paediatric diseases. The Trust has
recently invested in a new transmission electron microscope with a

available for a variety of clinical conditions including renal,
neuromuscular, dermatological, neoplastic and gastrointestinal
disorders. The department has particular expertise in metabolic
disorders and works in close collaboration with colleagues in
biochemistry and molecular genetics to provide a comprehensive
