Chemical Pathology
The
Chemical Pathology Laboratory provides an extensive range of
services covering both routine biochemistry and highly specialised
analysis and interpretation. The laboratory is led and
supported by experts in their discipline and is highly regarded for
the clinical opinion which supports interpretation and
diagnosis.
The service comprises four main laboratories:
• Routine biochemistry
• Metabolic biochemistry
• Special enzymes laboratory
• Newborn screening
The Chemical Pathology Laboratory hosts and supports several
National Specialist Commissioning Group (NSCG) Services including,
Lysosomal Storage Disorders and Muscles Glycogen Metabolism.
We also have strong collaborative links with other highly
specialised diagnostics laboratories, such as the Neurometabolic
Unit at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
To develop services fo the future our unit is highly
research active with strong links to the Institute of

Opening Hours
The department offers a 24-hour service for routine Chemistry
with the core hours of:
8am-8pm Monday to Friday
8.30am-12pm Saturday and Sunday
Laboratory staff outside of these hours can be contacted via the
hospital bleep system (please see the contact list)
Specialist investigations are
available 9am-5.30pm Monday to Friday with some
particularly complex investigations requiring notice to the
laboratory.
