Description
Patients undergoing a renal transplant receive a pre-transplant serology assessment. Automated ELFAs are used for the detection of VZV, measles, CMV and EBV VCA IgG. The immune status of the patient to each virus is therefore determined; the potential for primary infection, re-infection or reactivation when immunosuppressed is thus known. The pre-transplant assessment also includes blood borne virus screening by ELFA or EIA for anti-HIV antibodies and p24 antigen, Hepatitis B surface antigen and Hepatitis C antibody and core antigen.
