Research in the Immunology department focuses on three mains areas:

1. Development of cellular therapies using our dedicated cell and gene therapy laboratories

Projects include:

  • selection of viral specific T cells
  • enrichment of bone marrow for treating heart disease
  • culture of thymus for thymic transplant

 2. Translation of research findings into robust diagnostic tests

  • over the past ten years, 12 new tests have been developed and implemented into routine diagnostic screening for primary immune deficiency (PID) and haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (see publications).
  • current research includes the evaluation of next generation sequencing for diagnosis of PID and development of testing for ITK deficiency.

3. Provision of support for research studies and clinical trials

  • gene therapy trials
  • analysis of immune reconstitution post Bone Marrow Transplant
  • commercial research projects
